The New York Knicks defeated the Indiana Pacers 101-92 Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, securing their second straight victory while handing the injury-riddled Pacers their 12th consecutive loss.
Knicks Hold Off Pacers Rally
Jalen Brunson led the charge for New York, tallying 29 points and nine assists. OG Anunoby contributed 25 points and eight rebounds, but it was Mitchell Robinson who dominated the boards, pulling down a career-high 22 rebounds to go with 12 points. The Knicks, now 42-25, fought off a determined Indiana squad that refused to fold despite its dismal season.
New York initially built a 14-point lead in the third quarter. But the Pacers, spurred by Jarace Walker's 18 points and nine rebounds, clawed their way back. Aaron Nesmith, who finished with 12 points, drained a three-pointer with just seven seconds left in the third, briefly giving Indiana a 74-73 advantage. Then Jordan Clarkson answered, beating the buzzer with a three that stood up to a replay review, putting the Knicks back up 76-74.
The Knicks tried to pull away again in the fourth, extending their lead to 83-77. Still, Indiana pushed back, cutting the deficit to 90-88 on two free throws from Walker with under three minutes to play. New York then reeled off seven straight points to seal the win. The Knicks struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 8 of 28 from three-point range.
New York's Playoff Aspirations
This victory marks the Knicks' sixth win in their last nine games, a crucial stretch as they fight to secure a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Last year's Eastern Conference runner-up, New York is aiming for home-court advantage in the first round, a significant factor in postseason success.
The season series between the two teams was tied 1-1 before Friday's contest. The Pacers pulled off a 137-134 overtime win over the Knicks on February 10, a game where Pascal Siakam dropped 30 points and Andrew Nembhard contributed 24 points and 10 assists. Earlier in the season, New York claimed a narrow 114-113 victory in Indiana.
While the Knicks secured the win, their offensive output of 101 points was notably lower than the 134 points they scored in their previous game against the Utah Jazz, where four players topped 20 points and the team shot 52% from the field. This highlights the varying offensive performances New York has shown recently.
Pacers' Injury-Riddled Season Continues
For the Indiana Pacers, the loss dropped their record to a league-worst 15-51. They have now lost 12 straight games, a period during which they've often given up more than 120 points, doing so in nine of those contests. Coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged his team's struggles but insisted his short-handed squad was still playing hard, even though they've already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Indiana's roster has been decimated by injuries throughout the season. Key players like Tyrese Haliburton, Pascal Siakam, and Obi Toppin have spent significant time sidelined. Ivica Zubac, acquired in a February trade, made his second appearance for the Pacers, adding 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Pacers' recent struggles stand in stark contrast to their surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals just last season. The current roster, missing many of its key contributors, has found it difficult to compete consistently, leading to their prolonged losing streak and early playoff elimination.
Knicks Face Growing Injury Concerns
While the Knicks secured a vital win, they did so while navigating their own significant injury report. Guard Josh Hart, dealing with left knee soreness, was listed as doubtful for the game. Hart has been vocal about the physical toll this season has taken, admitting on the Roommates Show that his
