Apple has had new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini models ready for launch for several months now. Yet, they remain stuck on the sidelines as the company works through delays with its revamped Siri and AI software.
Inventory Shortages Signal a Pending Update
Apple retail stores worldwide are running low on current stock of the Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini, and even the full-sized HomePod. These shortages often suggest that new products might be on the way. But this time, things are a bit more complicated.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has a solid track record covering Apple, highlights that while the new hardware has been ready since last year, Apple is holding off to synchronize these launches with a new, more personalized Siri experience powered by advanced AI, branded internally as Apple Intelligence.
As a result, customers might face longer delivery times and fewer units available in stores. Still, the lack of an official release date keeps everyone guessing.
Hardware Upgrades Poised to Power Apple Intelligence
The upcoming Apple TV 4K is expected to feature Apple's A17 Pro chip, improving on the current A15 Bionic. That chip is reportedly the minimum required to run Apple’s next-gen AI features smoothly. The device will also likely boast the N1 chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support, which means faster wireless connections and better smart home integration.
On the HomePod mini side, rumors indicate it will shift from the current S5 chip to the newer S9 chip, which is also used in the latest Apple Watches. This chip upgrade should let the HomePod mini run the AI-powered Siri more smoothly. Other expected improvements include enhanced sound quality, an updated Ultra Wideband chip for better device tracking, and even a fresh red color option.
Software Bottlenecks Delay Product Launches
It seems Apple's struggles with AI are causing the delay. The company has run into unexpected hurdles implementing the revamped Siri, which is supposed to offer more personalized and intelligent responses. This software bottleneck has disrupted Apple’s usual product launch rhythm.
Apple revealed nine new products recently, like iPads and MacBooks, but left out the Apple TV and HomePod mini. It seems Cupertino isn’t willing to release these smart home devices without the fully functional AI features they’re designed to showcase.
Gurman suggests the new Siri could arrive in either iOS 26.5 or iOS 27, with the first beta of iOS 26.5 potentially dropping in late March or early April. If that pans out, the new Apple TV and HomePod mini might make their debut any time from late March through September.
