April 15 is Tax Day — and brands want your business. Lots of chains are pushing app-only promos, BOGOs and deep discounts this Tax Day.
Where the biggest savings are
You don't need a refund to snag a free or cheap item on Tax Day 2026—just show up or open the app. National chains and grocery banners put dozens of limited-time offers on the calendar for April 15, with many tied to loyalty apps, promo codes or a minimum purchase.
Deals range from buy-one-get-one doughnuts to subs under $10 and app discounts topping $10.
Subway is running a notable promotion: Sub Club members who buy a footlong and use the code FLBOGO can get a second footlong free through April 28. And on April 15 specifically, 1,040 randomly selected customers who use the code will receive a coupon for a free footlong as a surprise "refund." Krispy Kreme is offering a classic BOGO on Original Glazed dozens on April 15 when customers order in-store, at the drive-thru or through the app and enter the code TAXBREAK.
Quick bites — easy wins
Wendy's is giving back with a free six-piece nugget order when customers spend $5 or more in the Wendy's app on April 15. Popeyes is discounting its three-piece tenders combo by 25% through its app and website that day.
Checkers & Rally's has marked a $3 price for a 6-ounce Big Buford burger on April 15, no coupon needed. Dog Haus is offering Haus Rewards members free tots with a $5 purchase. And Fazoli's is running a BOGO or buy-one-get-a-free baked spaghetti offer for rewards members through its app at participating locations.
Deals that require a download or sign-up
Most deals require an app download or a rewards account to redeem. Church's Texas Chicken is offering an eight-piece leg-and-thigh meal for $4.99, available to Real Rewards members who signed up before April 15 and redeem through the mobile app, online or in-restaurant after checking in with the in-app QR.
Capriotti's Sandwich Shop has a loyalty perk: rewards members get a free combo upgrade (chips and a fountain drink) with purchase of any sub on April 15 by scanning the app or applying the reward online. Smoothie King will add a $3-off coupon for customers who join its Healthy Rewards program and download the app on April 15.
App codes and online-only savings
A few promotions are available only online or through an app.
7-Eleven customers using the 7NOW delivery app can save $10.40 on orders of $25 or more with the promo code WRITEOFF on April 15. Dickey's Barbecue Pit is running a similar online-only discount: $10 off purchases of $50 or more with the code WRITEOFF at checkout, valid via the Dickey's app or website at participating locations nationwide.
Kroger shoppers can clip a digital coupon to get a Private Selection frozen meal for half off when they buy one between April 15 and April 22. BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse is giving $10 off a $40 bill for dine-in or takeout on April 15 with the code TAXDAY. Marco's Pizza lists a large Pepperoni Magnifico for $12.99 with the code TAXRELIEF.
Regional and limited-time promos worth noting
Pizza Hut has rolled out large three-topping pizzas starting at $10 for Tax Day, available in-store, online and through the Pizza Hut app. Potbelly brought back a BOGO sandwich and wrap offer for April 15 using the promo code BOGO. Penn Station East Coast Subs is selling small subs for $5.99 each (limit five) on April 15 with the promo code TAX26.
Goldfish is staging a timed giveaway — starting at 4:15 p.m. Eastern on April 15 customers who visit GoldfishParentTax.com and complete a short survey can claim two free bags while supplies last. Round Table Pizza is offering 15% off orders from April 15 through April 19 with the code RTP978. Paris Baguette is giving rewards members a free pastry with any beverage purchase on April 15.
Chain-wide and multi-day campaigns
Several brands extend deals past just Tax Day. QDOBA is inviting rewards members to complete a short form by April 15 and then receive a $5 reward toward a future entrée; the coupon is scheduled to load later in April for redemption during a limited window. Del Taco's Tax Day promotions run April 15 through April 21 for Del Yeah! Rewards members, including a free Snack Taco with a $5 purchase and buy-one-get-one Beer Battered Crispy Fish Tacos.
Some restaurant offers are intentionally playful — California Tortilla revived its "Government Cheese" tradition, giving customers who make any purchase a free small chips-and-queso (or chips-and-salsa) if they use the password GOVCHEESE in-store or the code online or in-app.
How to avoid disappointment
Many promos are limited by time, inventory or membership eligibility. Rewards-only deals often require you to have signed up prior to April 15 or to be logged into the app at checkout. Many discounts are app-only or require a specific promo code at online checkout. So download the app, create an account and add payment info if you plan to take advantage.
And watch the fine print: some coupons are one-time-use, others are limited to certain locations or participating franchises, and some are only valid for particular ordering channels. For example, Krispy Kreme's BOGO is available in-store, drive-thru and via the app, while the 7-Eleven WRITEOFF deal applies only to orders placed through 7NOW Delivery.
Why retailers do this on Tax Day
Retailers and restaurants treat Tax Day like any other calendar moment that nudges consumer behavior. April 15 prompts lots of talk about refunds and "write-offs," and brands lean on that conversation with themed discounts and free items to drive foot traffic, app downloads and social buzz. Many offers are designed to push customers into loyalty programs — a low-cost way for chains to gather email addresses and payment details for future marketing.
If you plan ahead, you can realize genuine savings. A $10.40 discount on a $25 7NOW order, a $10-off restaurant coupon or a free dozen of doughnuts are tangible cash saved — especially for people who were already planning to eat out or order in.
Timing and tips for shoppers
Check each chain's app or website for geo-restrictions and participating locations.
Some deals are national but redeemed differently by franchisees; others are limited to company-owned stores. If a code is required, copy it exactly — promo logic is unforgiving.
Finally, stack where you can. Use a card that gives extra points on dining, apply a store coupon, and then redeem a site promo. That can turn a small Tax Day treat into a larger, measurable saving.
